Habit researchers say consistencyconsistencydoing the same small thing at the same time, again and again matters far more than intensity, so a two-minute stretch every morning beats an hour-long workout attempted once a week.

Students who tied a new habit to something they already did without thinking, like brushing their teeth or packing a school bag, were far more likely to still be doing it three months later.

One trick that showed up again and again: leaving visual reminders in plain sight, like a water bottle by the front door or running shoes left out the night before.

Researchers say the goal isn't a perfect streak — missing one day barely matters, but missing two days in a row is when most people give the habit up for good.
